Public Health Minister Challenges Bamenda Regional Hospital administration and staff to put more effort in the exercise of their duty despite the prevailing impasse in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon.
The quest for quality health care services in Cameroon, the North west Region and Bamenda in particular is a concern to both the ministry of health, its partners and other health collaborators. Exactly a week after the the visit of the US Ambassador to the regional hospital Bamenda to strengthen existing ties between the US government, people of America and the Bamenda Regional hospital (BRH), Health boss Andre Mama Fouda makes a trip to the region for three reasons.
First To visit the construction site of the Bamenda Referral University teaching Hospital, visit to the Haemodialysis center of the BRH and a working session with health practioners at the conference hall of the North West Regional Fund for health promotion.
After Minister Andre Mama's tour at the Bamenda University teaching site he regrets that the site plan was not respected, remarked that the progress of work was slow due to the prevailing insecurity in the region. Andre mama Fouda rated work on the main at 30%. Based on his assessment, the Minister urgent all health practitioners who are specialised in the construction of the University texting hospital to put hands on deck to scale the execution rate. It should be noted this visit of the Minister's evaluation trip comes exactly 1year after construction works were launched on the site.
Visiting the Hemodialysis center of the BRH, Mama Fouda exppressed satisfaction at the duty conscious attitude possessed by the staff and urged them to continue to do more to care for the over 70 patients they receive. He however affirmed the commitment of his Ministry to the timely intervention of his ministry with regards to the concerns of the center last year such as the need for a standby generator, dialysis kids and the repair works that were engaged at the center. He took note that there are some equipment that need replacement after 5years and he promised to offer the necessary assistance.
The transformed 'E' ward caught the attention of Minister Mama Fouda who congratulated the creative and innovative skills of the Director of the BRH, Dr Kinge Thompson and his collaborators and challenged on the need to do more. The standards of the BRH is worth being called a referral Hospital and an example for other hospitals to emulate, Mr Fouda added. The Imagery center too according to Mr Fouda is of good standard but will engage repairs on some equipment that have developed fault after 3yrs to ensure good scanning and x-rays be conducted.
To the staff of the regional Hospital, Mama Fouda congratulated their efforts despite the trying times the region is witnessing. He urged them to take advantage of the over 90% bed occupation to excercise the ethics of their profession which is saving lives.
The health boss could not give a blind eye and deaf ears to the socio-political upheavals in the NW and SW Regions of Cameroon. To these English communities he urgent them to adhere to the virtues of peace. Through peace Minister Andre Mama Fouda holds that once there is peace, messages on vacciniation of children will be passed on hitch free and parents will get children vaccinated, Children will acquire education in tranquility, Distribution of treated mosquito bednets will be made easier and the fight to reduce the prevalence of malaria, reduce infant and material mortality will go on hitch free.
