UNHCR, in support of measures to check the spread of COVID-19, donates some equipment to the Regional Hospital Bamenda
The Regional Hospital Bamenda within the week played host to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugee, Mr Olivier Guillaume Beer, whose aim was to donate some materials to help contain the spread of the virus. The Country Representative and his entourage were received by the Director of the hospital Dr. Denis Nsame, the administration and some staff.
During the brief ceremony, Dr. Nsame presented the hospital's achievements and envisaged projects. These projects range from a CT Scan to Doctors' offices, reinforcement of the fence round the hospital, purchase of equipment in some units, painting of the entire hospital, renovation of some wards like the Reanimation, the Outpatient Department, the Theatre, to name just these.
In response, Mr. Olivier Guillaume Beer appreciated the work the Director and his team are doing and underscored the need for a continued fight against the health challenges faced by the world at large. While indicating that the agency he represents has a key role to work towards humanitarian relief of refugees and Internally displaced persons in conflict-prone areas, he echoed that he has taken note of all the earmarked projects and has as role too to source for funding with donor agencies whenever the opportunity comes.
The package he presented to the hospital on behalf of UNHCR comprised 3800 pieces of facemasks, 1900 pieces of gloves, 2 Oxygen concentrators and 1 respirator with accessories.
